Graphical Update?…What we think.

Posted by Soulblade102

So by now most people have heard about the upcoming ten ton gorilla graphics update for runescape. To be honest, i think its about time something really good like this happened. For the past year or so, jagex has been getting a bad rep over RuneScape due to all the really radical changes they are making. Of course, thats a whole other issue and would be pointless to discuss in this issue. Anyway, to get back to the point. I think Jagex is finally going to get something right. If RuneScape wants to survive in the upcoming MMORPG heat, it needed to buff up its game. Jagex realized that if they didn’t cut the laziness and start working on something that will make people head back to RuneScape.. their pretty much over. After all, most people eventually move onto World of Warcraft (WoW) from RuneScape. Why? Although i don’t have a definite answer, i believe that it could be the possiblity of growing up a bit more. Like for example, as i started to learn more and started to hit age 14-15, i started to realize that there were alot better games out there. That are more fun and graphically more appealing, RuneScape’s visual appeal started to wear off on me and quite frankly, i got sick of it.

Now, this may not be the case with all players. I know some people just simply enjoy the simplicity of playing RuneScape in a webbrowser with java. Yeah, everyone has their own preferences. But wow, im actually quite impressed with Jagex. I have looked at some of the screenshots they released and i certainly am impressed. Although we currently don’t know how they plan to release the high resolution version of the game, im quite firm in believing that the next generation of RuneScape will not be running on java. Simply because java is not good enough.

Ok so, Jagex releases a new graphics update. So what you may ask? I think this is what all those long lost rumors of RuneScape 3 was. They have been working on this update for a very long time. Theres no possible way to reconstruct all of RuneScape in a matter of a year or less. Its just too much work. Ladies and gentlemen, cheers to the next generation of RuneScape!

Now.. we sit and wait, we don’t know much about this mysterious update..yet. But ill be sure to rewrite another article once it is released.

Can’t wait for this update :)

Are you sure they will not be using Java?

We already know that they can easily create full-screen games with Java… (i.e FunOrb)

    Good article :)

I’m almost positive it will be in Java, actually -

Anyways, I agree with the article in general – theres no real way to give Jagex crap for this update, but you know the pessimists will find a way somehow :(

The graphics actually don’t even bug me. Although I wish some aspects of them were improved I still love the game and really don’t see the appeal of Wow.

Doesn’t mean the upcoming update isn’t a welcoming change ^_^

I like WoW better but I play both. I don’t think Jagex should be focusing on fixing the graphics of the game but first fix all the things they screwed up. I hate the new trade limit rule and also the wildy ditch. They need to get up and fix stuff that people actually care about.

Oh yah and WoW is more popular because it is just a better game. The graphics have (almost) nothing to do with it. It is the way you fight and the way you quest. It is also more interactive. Nice Post by the way. ^_^

In regards to what K13 said, the trade limit will not be fixed and the wildy will not come back. jagex has stated these things plenty of times.

I’m looking forward to the graphics update. In fact, the only thing I think I was just as excited about was the GE. I’ll take a couple of price fluxuations over spending time I could be actually playing, in a bank trying to sell something.

As far as switiching to WOW goes, I’d rather stick with RS which I’ve been playing for 4-5 years. Its cheap and its a browser game, so I can play it regardless as to what computer I’m on. I have no interest in starting something just because its a game with similar style. My question is this, Why is it that it seems half the people who play WOW spend time on RS complaining about how much they like WOW better? Why don’t you just spend that time playing WOW? Same with guild Wars. Do they really feel the need to do something they ultimately don’t want to do, just so they have something to complain about?

    Good article.

Well, I’m looking forward to this update. Even though I stopped playing about 2 years ago, this is one of the only updates in a few years that I care about. It seems like Jagex is setting a big step forward with this update, which is indeed necesairy to stay “in the game”.

But honestly, I don’t think that Runescape will survive merely because of a graphical update. They will need to improve on a lot of parts to keep up with other MMO’s. It would need more in-depth gameplay, no skills like firemaking, which involve lighting fires and candles. They need to create a bigger world and better transport around it. In my opinion, the game will need a complete revamp, to be able to stay ahead of/keep up with the rest.

dude of course it must work on java but i am surprised how come you can play a game on your browser with full screen and it’s java :O jagex must have alot of database or they could been using a very good computer to restore info.
but i agree when you said this work can not be done in less than 2 year actually your rite if you saw the dev diary there it says it have been expected to finish after 1 year and 7 months altho they did all of that in like ….. wat? 5 months… those people are telling us they are nerds actually iam not against them but tbh thats funny also as you said java is not that good with graphics… i guess jagex have to do their best or they will lose more money… i bet that the new graphics is gonna be for members only …. why? because they need more money! they are doing all of that so new people joins and they get more money i think jagex saw Wow ( world of warcraft ) and they got angry.. how come you pay alot to WoW while you cant pay 5$ to play runescape members?
of course they have been doing researches and they got up to that WoW graphics are way better than runescape…

    Ok thats all thanks :)

I am real excited about the Graphical Update. It will bring in many new people into the game (hopefully some older people too).

But I think Jagex shouldent only focus on the graphics, as they haven’t updated some current skills in YEARS! I personally think they should focus on that before they get into the Graphics….

    But Graphic’s fine too :D

  9. Therin Irwin says:

If you know anything about either Java or any programming language at all, you would understand that Jagex would not rewrite Runescape again, especially in another language. It would be like Nintendo writing a game for the Xbox 360.

    thats for sure, brother

  11. hageannogeorm says:

good resourse Anyway by sight very much it is pleasant to me

  12. matthew says:

rs has sorta good graphics but its not really the graphics its the addiction and fun that matters
    :D

  13. dezz says:

this (now current) graphics updates is much better than the older version…though it takes up a lot of bw and it sometimes freezes but it is worth it by a lot. the new light settings are amazing especially the poh. and to me wow will never trump rs simply because it is just to expensive to even start. you can start rs for free and when you lvl up a bit you can upgrade
